The Fallen Heroes Memorial Foundation welcomes Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and Korean War veteran, Robert E. Simanek, as an honorary member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Simanek was a USMC Private First Class during the Korean War. On 17 Aug, 1952, PFC Simanek and members of his platoon were ambushed by intense mortar and small -arms fire inflicting heavy casualties, he and others sought cover in a trench line. A grenade landed in the trench and PFC Simanek unhesitatingly threw himself on the grenade, absorbing the shattering charge and shielding his fellow Marines, as he suffered grave injuries.

The Fallen Heroes Memorial Foundation is honored to welcome Mr. Simanek to the organization.
